Silence and a human tragedy?

Points

1. There are reports of demonstrations by hundreds of people in Ramanagaram, Channapattana, Mandya and Srirangapattana under the banner of the BMIC Virodhi Okkuta during September-October 2001.

2. Opposition to the project seems to stem from the fact that it potentially impacts around 200,000 people, while cash-compensation apparently applies to only about 40,000 of these people.

3. The only reports of a resettlement & rehabilitation package in the media seems to be Rs.8 or Rs.19 crore program for 1320 families, that is around 7000 people.

Questions

What are the rest of the people are going to do. Are we going to relegate these people to slums of the towns and cities and add to urban problems?

Why is there a continuing silence of the Government on this impending human tragedy.

Why is there a far less impactful Rs.500 crore railways expansion proposal gathering dust in the halls of the state government?
