RE: Complaint filed with the NHRC (No. 242/10/2000-2001 lodged on July 14, 2000) regarding human rights abuses at Environmental Public Hearings held for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project (BMICP)

Dear Sir,

In relation to the aforementioned complaint, I wish to inquire about NHRC’s decision. As has been related in my earlier representations, the Ministry of Environment and Forest granted conditional clearance to the project, despite my pending complaint with regard to human rights violations in the Environmental Public Hearings. It would thus imply that the agencies have proceeded with the clearances in disregard to NHRC’s review process in the matter.

It now been revealed that the project developers, Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, would commence project development in a month (vide Times of India, dt. 12 June 2002, copy enclosed). Considering this, NHRC’s early decision on my complaint would be deeply appreciated.
